So, the lineup for Lollapalooza 2012 was announced earlier today. But, unfortunately, from the ten bands that I listed on my wishlist, only At The Drive-In made it on the final lineup. So, no Bon Iver or Refused for me.
But the headliners though, I love. I listen to a lot of The Black Keys, and Red Hot Chili Peppers were one of the first artists that became my gateway to music. Then there’s Black Sabbath, of course. Black Freaking Sabbath, the Godfathers of Metal, reuniting at Lollapalooza. How crazy is that. I’ve never really thought of seeing them together, the whole original members. Especially not at Lollapalooza, who refused to let Ozzy join years ago. So, I’m really stoked that I’m going to see them live.
There’s not a whole of minor bands for me though. But there’s Sigur Ros, who’s one of my favorite post-rock bands. Tame Impala, a psychedelic band from Australia will be there too. Bloc Party, Washed Out, The War on Drugs, Bloc Party, The Shins, Fun., and The Gaslight Anthem will be on my list of “bands to watch” as well.
The 3-Day Pass for Lollapalooza 2012 went on sale last Tuesday, and I’m one of the lucky ones who was able to jump in on their early bird special (which is $30 cheaper than their regular pass). So, I’m ready to go now. The problem, however, is that the festival isn’t until August. They haven’t even announced the lineup yet.
There are rumors and speculations on who will play at the festival. A fake lineup was even released. But, as of now, no official lineup has been released yet. So, if Perry Farrell ask me, I wish that these 10 bands be included on this year’s lineup.
1. Cloud Nothings
My first favorite new band of 2012, Cloud Nothings are winning people over with their early-emo sound. There’s been a lot of buzz about them after playing on SXSW, and they’re already scheduled to play on Pitchfork Music Festival this July. Seems wrong not to include them on Lollapalooza.
“Fall In” by Cloud Nothings
This Brooklyn band won me over with their vocalist’s cutesy voice. So, I want to see them at Lolla and hear Amber’s voice live.
“Friends of Friends” by Hospitality
The best band in the world, of all times. They should be on every music festival. Just saying.
“Stinkfist” by Tool
4. At The Drive-In (or The Mars Volta)
To my delight, At The Drive-In, one of my favorite bands, announced their reunion a couple months ago and they’re playing at this year’s Coachella. So, I want to see them at Lollapalooza too. But if they can’t make it, I’ll take The Mars Volta (ATDI’s offshoot) anytime.
“One Armed Scissor” by At The Drive-In
Like with ATDI, Refused also went defunct before I could see them live. But they also announced their reunion a couple months ago, and they’re also playing at Coachella. It would be evil if Lollapalooza organizers don’t include them on this year’s lineup.
“New Noise” by Refused
6. Bon Iver
Bon Iver. Grammy Award Winner. My favorite artist of 2011. Wrote “Calgary” and “Blindsided”, which are two of my favorite songs of all time. He’s playing at this year’s Coachella and Bonnaroo. He should also be included on Lollapalooza’s lineup.
“Calgary” by Bon Iver
I like Yuck’s brand of guitar pop and their debut album is one of my favorite albums in 2011. So, I’d be happy to see them play live on Lollapalooza.
“Shook Down” by Yuck
After their reunion, Soundgarden was one of the headliners back in Lollapalooza 2010. But I missed them then. Now that they’re dropping some new material this year, I think that they should be included on this year’s lineup.
“Burden in my Hand” by Soundgarden
9. Real Estate
Their album Days is my ultimate soundtrack for chilling on a hot summer day. So, it’d be really cool if they can play at Lollapalooza.
“Municipality” by Real Estate
Same reason with Hospitality. I like the vocalist and I want to hear her sing live.
“Mouthful of Diamonds” by Phantogram
So, these are the 10 artists that I want to see on Lollapalooza 2012. Not all of them will play, I’m sure. But I have a good feeling that Cloud Nothings, Bon Iver, Hospitality and Real Estate will be there. And that is good enough for me.
